October 2019 MCLE Luncheon with George Fleming and Michael J. Roberts

Please calendar our next MCLE lunchtime program on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at 12:00 pm at the Manhattan of La Jolla restaurant (within the Empress Hotel at 7766 Fay Avenue).

We are extremely pleased to have GEORGE FLEMING and MICHAEL J. ROBERTS as our October speakers. Their joint presentation on Mediation is entitled “NEGOTIATING IN A DYSFUNCTIONAL ENVIRONMENT:  DIFFICULT PEOPLE AND PROBLEMS.

Our association is most fortunate these highly respected professional share their collective wealth of experience with our members.  Our own long-time association member, George Fleming (founder – Fleming, PC), has over 40 years experience handling numerous complex litigation mediations and jury trials; and Michael J., Roberts (Neutral – ADR Services, Inc.), has 40 years experience as a mediator and special master in over 4,000 cases.

Their presentation will focus on effective mediation, with emphasis on difficult cases and  dysfunctional  settlement  negotiations, where negotiations have stalled and the parties are at impasse.  The speakers will discuss causes for such problems, including lack of preparation; a party’s unrealistic  assessment  of their position; hidden agendas; and/or negotiation tactics that are not conducive to, or altogether undermine efforts toward settlement.  The speakers will also discuss dysfunctional  negotiations in which the lawyers and/or their clients are the primary problem to achieving resolution of the dispute, and effective mediation strategies to overcome these and other obstacles to settling difficult cases.

George FlemingGEORGE FLEMING, Esq. – Fleming PC

George Fleming is among a select few lawyers in Southern California who has been accorded one of the highest honors a trial lawyer can receive: invitation to be a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Mr. Fleming was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates in 1983, where he holds the rank of “Advocate,” and is a past SD president and director of that organization.  He has handled an extraordinary number of jury trials and mediations involving complex litigation, and holds an impressive record of successful outcomes over the past 40 years.

As lead counsel on behalf of plaintiffs, he has recovered many millions of dollars for his clients, and as a defender he has saved clients many millions as well.

For over 20 years, he has been recognized annually by Woodward/White as one of the Best Lawyers in America.

MICHAEL J. ROBERTS, Esq. – ADR Services, Inc.

Michael J. Roberts, Esq. is a full-time mediator and arbitrator of over 25 years and is widely recognized for his expertise and resolve in settling complex and difficult cases in the areas of employment, construction, business, real estate and insurance.
