La Jolla Bar Association, October MCLE Luncheon

The next LJBA lunchtime MCLE program will be Thursday, October 13th at 12:00 noon, at the Manhattan of La Jolla restaurant (within the Empress Hotel @ 7766 Fay Avenue).

We are pleased to have forensic accounting expert, Gary L. Howard, CPA, as our speaker this month, presenting: “Accounting and Taxation for Attorneys:  The Issues That Will Hound You When the IRS Has Found You”.

This program will include discussion of deduction rules – what you may deduct from income, and what you may not;  legal requirements for filing of Information Returns; Foreign Reporting Requirements – what reports must you file for bank accounts, financial accounts and other assets held outside the United States (and the downside if you fail to file); and IRS Examinations – an overview of the examination process; and audit issues for attorneys.

Some information about our speaker:

Gary L. Howard and his accounting firm, G.L. Howard and Company CPAs, LLP (Los Alamitos, California) have focused on litigation support and forensic accounting for over twenty years.   Mr. Howard received his B.A. in Economics and Accounting from California State University, Fullerton, and his M.S. in Taxation from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.

Mr. Howard and his firm work with attorneys throughout Southern California on litigation and tax controversy matters of all sizes. Their practice focus is litigation support, and Mr. Howard regularly acts as an expert witness, analyzing and quantifying economic damages in a variety of cases, including: complex high-risk cases; complicated tax controversy matters (both civil and criminal); cases involving alter ego issues; voluntary disclosure cases; and economic damages cases. He is a frequent speaker regarding tax controversy matters at AICPA and American Bar Association Conferences.
