July 2018 MCLE Luncheon with Danna Cotman and Joseph Mayo

Our next MCLE lunchtime program will be on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 12:00 pm at the Manhattan of La Jolla restaurant (within the Empress Hotel at 7766 Fay Avenue). This program will provide 1.0 hr general CLE credit.

We are pleased to have two speakers this month, who are attorney Danna Cotman (a member and a past president of our association), and Joseph Mayo, a Registered U.S. Patent Agent, both of whom are with the  firm of ARC IP Law, PC in La Jolla, California.

Ms. Cotman and Mr. Mayo will jointly present “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PRIMER: BASIC CONCEPTS OF IPcovering such topics as:

  • Trademark;
  • Patents
  • Trade Secrets
  • Synergy of IP Protection
  • Litigation and the International Trade Commission

Information about our speakers:

 

Danna Cotman

Danna Cotman is the owner and founder of ARC IP Law, PC, a boutique intellectual property law firm, located in La Jolla, California.  Ms. Cotman has made thousands of court appearances, successfully representing clients before the USPTO, the United States District Court, and Superior Court.

In the course of her practice, she has handled a wide variety of intellectual property matters, including patent litigation, licensing agreements, copyright, trade secret matters, inter partes review of patents, enforcement and anti-counterfeit before the international trade commission, and enforcement of intellectual property rights through customs. 

Aside from running her law firm and practicing law, Ms. Cotman  is the President of Lawyers Club of San Diego, which was founded in 1972 to advance the status of women in the law and society and has more than 1,300 members including attorneys, judges, district attorneys, community leaders, students, and other members of the legal community. Ms. Cotman holds a JD, MBA, BSBA, and AA in Fashion Design. 

 

Joseph Mayo

Joseph Mayo is a registered U. S. patent agent with over 30 years of technical experience in hardware and software. 

Mr. Mayo graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology  (MIT) in 1983 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.   His experience includes: strategic patent portfolio development; patent prosecution; post grant review proceedings; litigation support; and representation of both US and international companies, ranging from large corporations to start-ups, and individual inventors. 

Mr. Mayo’s extensive experience in computer systems, hardware, software, medical devices, and mechanical devices has resulted in more than 600 patents being issued by the USPTO and abroad. His fields of technology for patents include electrical machinery and apparatus: audio visual technology; telecommunications; information technology; semiconductors; optics instruments; analysis and measurement; medical technology instruments and devices; diagnostics; machine learning; software; electrical; mechanical and machine tools; engines; pumps turbines; space technology; weapons; and consumer goods and equipment. 

Mr. Mayo is a Java Certified Programmer and Java Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE.
