September 10, 2015 MCLE Luncheon-Jacob Stein, Esq., A Lawyer’s Guide to Asset Protection Planning

LA JOLLA BAR ASSOCIATION MCLE LUNCHEON ON THURSDAY, September 10, 2015, AT NOON

The next lunch meeting of the La Jolla Bar Association will be on Thursday, September 10, 2015 @ 12:00 noon, at the Manhattan of La Jolla restaurant, located within the Empress Hotel, 7766 Fay Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037 (at the  intersection of Fay and  Silverado).

We are pleased to have back with us  Jacob Stein, Esq. of Klueger & Stein, LLP in Encino, California.  Jacob will speak to us on “ A LAWYER’S GUIDE TO ASSET PROTECTION PLANNING.

The presentation will address asset protection for houses, bank and brokerage accounts, businesses, professional practices, and retirement plans from claimants and creditors, and practical approaches for their protection.  Actual case scenarios and anecdotes will be presented, and topics covered will include: choice of business entities; charging order limitations; use of trusts, offshore structures and more; asset protection in commercial lending and lease scenarios; and the client who seeks help after the lawsuit, loan default, or other claim event has occurred.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Stein frequently lectures on advanced tax and asset protection topics to bar associations, accounting professional groups, and other business groups, and has authored several articles, manuals and books, including A Lawyer’s Guide to Asset Protection Planning in California (2011), and International Joint Ventures: A Concise Guide for Attorneys & Business Owners (2014).  Mr. Stein is an adjunct professor of taxation for the CSU Northridge Graduate Tax Program, and an instructor for the California CPA Education Foundation.

General Information on LJBA Luncheons

The La Jolla Bar Association (LJBA), which is an approved MCLE provider, holds monthly luncheons of its members on the second Thursday of each month, except in August and December, which are reserved for the LJBA Summer Beach Party and the LJBA Holiday Party, respectively.

The MCLE luncheons are held at the Manhattan Restaurant in the historic Empress Hotel on Fay Avenue in downtown La Jolla, commencing at noon.

  • Members of the LJBA may attend at no cost, other than the cost of lunch (which they are expected to purchase).
  • Non-members may attend for a $20 charge plus the cost of their lunch.
