November 2026 MCLE Luncheon with Aurora Marquez, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

Aurora Marquez

Please calendar our upcoming lunchtime MCLE on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 12:00 pm at the Living Room Coffeehouse & Bistro, 1205 Prospect Street in La Jolla. Zoom participation is available for those unable to attend this presentation in-person, but requires prior registration.

We are pleased to announce that our November MCLE presenter will be Aurora Marquez, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Marquez Forensic Advisors, who will present “Follow The Money . . . Fraud and Forensic Accounting,” during which she will refer to an actual case where $2.4 million vanished while the books still balanced, and will show how forensic accountants follow the money.

This is certain to be a worthwhile program for our members to attend, and relevant to most practice areas, as fraud allegations and financial irregularities can arise across a wide range of legal matters, including business disputes, employment matters, family law, and other civil litigation.

During this program, our speaker will share her professional insights into fraud investigations, and will provide you with an overview of the various steps involved with fraud recovery litigation and/or fraud defense litigation, including:

– the investigation process, and collection and preservation of evidence (i.e., records, data and supporting documents), including what should be requested during discovery; and the role of the fraud examiner prior to and throughout the discovery process;

– analysis of the financial activity (i.e., anomalies and “red flag” patterns and questionable transactions, which may, or may not be, evidence of fraud); and the tracing of funds through accounts and entities to the final recipient;

– the importance of evaluating findings, and testing them against independent evidence and explanations; together with quantifying the financial impact (i.e., substantiating actual net losses); and

– the necessity of preparing accurate and defensible schedules, reports and litigation exhibits that constitute admissible evidence for trial and/or other dispute resolution proceedings.

This presentation should prove both interesting and informative to all of our members, and we hope that you can attend it.
