La Jolla Bar Association, September MCLE Luncheon

Event placeholder

The next LJBA lunchtime MCLE program will be Thursday, September 8th at 12:00 noon, at the Manhattan of La Jolla restaurant (within the Empress Hotel @ 7766 Fay Avenue).

We are pleased to have our 2016 President, Donald R. Lincoln, speaking to us on “The San Luis Rey Indian Water Dispute and Settlement,” a presentation which will address the rich and involved history of this complicated local water rights dispute, which has been at play since 1875 when the United States set aside reservations for local Indian tribes with rights to the San Luis Rey River waters, and north county cities and county areas began diverting that water to their own purposes.

Don’s presentation will address the governmental actions, state and federal laws, and the multiple litigations during the history of this dispute, including the difficulties involved in bringing to conclusion a settlement of the dispute. This program will be both interesting and topical, given recent congressional efforts toward concluding that settlement.
