April 2026 MCLE Luncheon with John W. Hanson

Please calendar our upcoming MCLE lunchtime program on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 12:00pm, at the Living Room Coffeehouse & Bistro, 1205 Prospect Street in La Jolla.

We are very pleased to have attorney John W. Hanson as our April speaker. Mr. Hanson is a longstanding member of our association, and practices exclusively in the area of consumer law.

Our speaker will draw upon his 25+ years experience representing clients in litigation with car dealerships and car warranty providers, in presenting to our members  “Consumer Law: Car Sales and Warranty Repairs,” in which he will focus on consumer protection laws and the practice of consumer law in two areas: (1) consumer manipulation and abusive tactics by dealerships during car purchase transactions; and (2) automobile defects and the remedies and limitations of California’s lemon law.  Mr. Hanson will also discuss how attorneys can assist their clients (and themselves) on how to save thousands of dollars and avoid becoming victim to both car sales practices and warranty company “run-arounds.”

Mr. Hanson last presented on these topics to our members during 2019,  in a very informative and well-received program.  Since that time, important statutory changes and case law developments have taken place which our speaker will discuss.  Mr. Hanson will also cover new information pertinent to navigating through landmines and traps that commonly present in car purchase transactions by consumers.

We appreciate Mr. Hanson’s willingness to again share his knowledge and expertise on these topics with our members through this updated presentation.

This presentation will provide 1.0 hour general MCLE credit, and we hope that all of you will participate in this program.

John W. Hanson, B.A., J.D., LL.M., practices exclusively in the area of consumer law, with a focus on the lemon law and car dealer fraud.

Mr. Hanson received J.D. and B.A. degrees from the University of Iowa, and an LL.M. from the University of London. After graduating from law school in 1996, Mr. Hanson clerked for an Iowa Supreme Court Justice, and subsequently clerked for the Iowa Federal District Court. After moving to California, Mr. Hanson served as law clerk for the Honorable Nita L. Stormes, Magistrate Judge, United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

Mr. Hanson began his consumer law practice at a firm started by one of “Nader’s Raiders,” and established his own consumer-law practice more than fifteen years ago. In addition to his law practice, Mr. Hanson gives presentations on consumer law to public and professional groups, and he teaches a course on consumer law at Miramar College.
