SUMMARY:April 2026 MCLE Luncheon with John W. Hanson
DESCRIPTION:Please calendar our upcoming MCLE lunchtime program on Thursday\, April 9\, 2026 at 12:00pm\, at the Living Room Coffeehouse & Bistro\, 1205 Prospect Street in La Jolla. \nWe are very pleased to have attorney John W. Hanson as our April speaker. Mr. Hanson is a longstanding member of our association\, and practices exclusively in the area of consumer law. \nOur speaker will draw upon his 25+ years experience representing clients in litigation with car dealerships and car warranty providers\, in presenting to our members  “Consumer Law: Car Sales and Warranty Repairs\,” in which he will focus on consumer protection laws and the practice of consumer law in two areas: (1) consumer manipulation and abusive tactics by dealerships during car purchase transactions; and (2) automobile defects and the remedies and limitations of California’s lemon law.  Mr. Hanson will also discuss how attorneys can assist their clients (and themselves) on how to save thousands of dollars and avoid becoming victim to both car sales practices and warranty company “run-arounds.” \nMr. Hanson last presented on these topics to our members during 2019\,  in a very informative and well-received program.  Since that time\, important statutory changes and case law developments have taken place which our speaker will discuss.  Mr. Hanson will also cover new information pertinent to navigating through landmines and traps that commonly present in car purchase transactions by consumers. \nWe appreciate Mr. Hanson’s willingness to again share his knowledge and expertise on these topics with our members through this updated presentation. \nThis presentation will provide 1.0 hour general MCLE credit\, and we hope that all of you will participate in this program. \n  \nSome Information about our Speaker\, John W. DESCRIPTION:Please calendar our next MCLE lunchtime program on Thursday\, May 14\, 2026 at 12:00pm\, at the Living Room Coffeehouse & Bistro\, 1205 Prospect Street in La Jolla. \nWe are pleased to have as our speaker this month\, local attorney Arturo Ocampo\, Ocampo Law\, who will present to our members on “Identifying and Mitigating Bias\,” a program in which our speaker will discuss: \n\nhow attorneys can develop their ability to identify bias\, and to differentiate explicit\, implicit and systemic biases;\nunderstanding the psychology of bias and how bias affects decision making\, and various types of biases\, such as affinity\, ingroup-outgroup\, confirmation\, and anchoring bias;\ntools that you can use to prevent and mitigate bias;\nthe types of bias experienced in law firms by women and persons of color; and\nhow to develop bias interrupters in the workplace\, and in the hiring process.\n\nOur speaker’s practice areas include Education Law\, Discrimination Law\, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Law.
