Wilson\, Counsel\,\nArent Fox LLP (Los Angeles) \n\n\nThursday\, September 2\, 2021\n12:00 pm via Zoom meeting\n  \nThese three panelists\, all seasoned litigation attorneys\, will collectively present the program “ALLIES:  MEN IN THE MIX\,”  discussing their observations and experiences with gender bias issues in their practices – in the workplace\, in the courtroom\, in both the legal and business community\, and in their personal lives.  \nJoining these panelists in the discussion will be their attorney-spouse “allies\,”  Kevin J. Daehnke\, Co-Founder\, Daehnke Cruz Law Group (Newport Beach);  Andrew O. Smith\, Shareeholder\, Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin (Los Angeles)\, and Michael J. Leahy (Insurance Law Consultant/ Expert Witness (Marina del Rey). Brian D. Huben\, Managing Partner\, Ballard Spahr LLP (Los Angeles) will moderate the panel. \nThe presentation will cover why developing allies (whether it be spouse\, senior partner\, or other mentor) is essential in the legal profession. The panelists will provide real life examples of biases (gender\, age\, race)\, and how attorneys can address\, react to\, and assist ourselves and others who are experiencing bias situations. The panelists intend to address lessons learned from the pandemic\, and how it has impacted the practice of law.  \n  \nThe program will provide 1.0 hour MCLE credit for the special requirement subject area “Elimination of Bias in the Legal Profession and Society\,” and we hope that all of you can attend.   \nPLEASE NOTE: This program may extend a little beyond one hour.   Also\, one or more of these identified panelists could become unable to participate in the September 2nd program as result of trial and/or other court appearance scheduling conflict.    \n  \nInformation about our Speakers:\n  \nPATRICIA EGAN DAEHNKE \nPatricia (Tricia) Daehnke heads up the medical malpractice team at Collinson\, Daehnke\, Inlow & Greco\, serving as lead trial counsel in numerous complex high damage cases. She has obtained defense verdicts in cases involving catastrophic injuries\, including quadriplegia\, traumatic brain injury\, and wrongful death. She is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and is board-certified in Medical Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys (ABPLA). Tricia is board-certified as a Civil Trial Specialist and Civil Practice Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA). She is a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA)\, a trial attorney honorary society comprised of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.  Tricia is recognized as a leading lawyer in both California and Nevada\, being named a Top Woman Lawyer by the Los Angeles Daily Journal\, A Woman of Distinction by California Women Lawyers\, a Top Medical Malpractice Lawyer by NPR’s Desert Companion and Vegas\, Inc.\, and selected as a Super Lawyer in Medical Malpractice Defense every year since 2007. \nTricia received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University. She graduated cum laude from Gonzaga University School of Law where she was a Thomas More Scholar\, President of the Moot Court Honors Council\, Chair of the Martin Luther King Committee and a Gonzaga Law Review Associate Editor. A fifth-generation Californian and native Angeleno\, she obtained her Nevada license while serving a judicial clerkship with then Chief Justice Robert Rose of the Nevada Supreme Court. \nTricia has served as President of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA)\, Chair of the LACBA Litigation Section\, Chair of the LACBA Delegation to the California Conference of Delegates\, and as a member of the Judicial Council Civil and Small Claims Advisory Committee.  She is the founder and current Co-Chair of LACBA President’s Advisory Committee on Women in the Legal Profession and Co-Chairs the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel CACI Committee. Tricia serves on the Los Angeles Superior Court Central Civil Bench/Bar Liaison Committee and the state-wide California Bench-Bar Coalition. Tricia was honored to receive the Charles R. English Spirit Award from the LACBA Delegation (2016) and the Matthew S. WILSON \nRoxanne Wilson is Counsel at Arent Fox LLP.  She focuses her practice on employment matters\, including the defense of employment class actions\, providing advice and counsel\, and conducting workplace investigations and auditing. DAEHNKE \nActive in the environmental policy and legal arenas since the late 1980s\, Kevin Daehnke is a champion of clean renewable energy\, the environment\, business and philanthropy. A self-described “policy geek\,” Kevin has been at the forefront of several win-win initiatives\, including serving as the primary architect of legislation that created the Bona Fide Ground Tenant tool to revitalize contaminated (Brownfield) sites for renewable energy and other productive uses. \nMr. Daehnke founded a national think-tank in the late 1990s\, to protect local infrastructure from multi-day electric power grid failures\, and developed an infrastructure business continuity preparedness guide\, endorsed by the National League of Cities\, NACO and ICMA. LEAHY \nMike Leahy is an insurance law consultant with over 40 years practice experience devoted to insurance law and risk transfer issues\, including analysis of coverage and reinsurance issues\, rendering opinions\, drafting insurance policies and endorsements and litigating insurance issues. HUBEN \nBrian D. Huben is the Managing Partner for the Los Angeles office of Ballard Spahr LLP.  Brian’s practice focuses on the representation of commercial landlords and shopping center owners\, managers\, and developers\, in litigation in state and federal courts.
