We are pleased to welcome Lesa Christenson, Certified Family Law Specialist, as our upcoming speaker for our June MCLE luncheon. Ms. Christenson will present “What Every Lawyer Should Know About Family Law.”

Ms. Christenson’s presentation topics will include:

  • Overview of the Family Law Court;
  • Issues arising in the marriage dissolution proceeding, including marital termination status;  child custody and visitation;  child support;  spousal support;  property and debt characterization; and attorneys fees;
  • Stages of the marital dissolution process in Family Law Court, including the pleadings; motions for interim orders; financial disclosure requirements and documentation; mediation processes; the availability and use of discovery; the settlement negotiation process and documenting the marital settlement agreement;  trial of issues in family law court in absence of settlement; and post-judgment issues and modification; and
  • Common questions arising during the course of a marriage dissolution proceeding

Regardless of your practice area, understanding of the Family Law Court role and function, and the process your clients face when involved in a marriage dissolution, will assist your representation as to their other legal needs.
